The Mission of the Plant Production and Physiology Division is to conduct basic/applied research to gain advanced knowledge on physiological and plant production aspects of Export Agriculture Crops to recommend novel techniques to increase high quality plant production, productivity and profitability of Export Agriculture Crops.

Current Research Programs

  • Grafting and field evaluation of grafted high yielding nutmeg (Myristica fragrans) selections
  • Grafting and field evaluation of grafted high yielding goraka (Garcinia quaesita) selections
  • Comparison of different training systems and effect of foliar fertilizer on growth and yield of Vanilla (Vanilla fragrans).
  • Investigation of high frequency shoot multiplication and plant production in vanilla tissue culture.
  • Investigation of suitability of different cutting types and tissue culture plantlets as planting materials for vanilla (Vanilla fragrans) cultivation.
  • In vitro propagation of high yielding black pepper (Piper nigrum) local selections.
  • Comparison of multiplication of 10 high yielding black pepper local selections using “Bamboo rapid multiplication system”.
  • Investigation of plant production efficiency of high yielding pepper (Piper nigrum) local selections under different propagator systems.
  • Production and distribution of two high yielding local pepper selections (GK49 and MB12) through central nurseries.
