The mission of the Plant Pathology Division is to develop and disseminate strategies to maintain the diseases below the economically thresh hold levels of Export Agriculture Crops.

Current Research Programmes

  • Evaluation of black pepper lace bug preference and resistance of different black pepper cultivars against PYMV disease.
  • Biological control of PYMV vector, black pepper lace bug and PYMV disease control.
  • PYMV and CMV- black pepper strain transmissions; confirmation of lace bug nymph as PYMV vectors.
  • Quick wilt disease of black pepper; study the presence of Phytopthora capsici in pepper progeny trial using leaf baiting technique and testing Trichoderma spp. as a control measure.
  • Investigations on the new causal agents of black pod disease of cocoa: against resistance of different cultivars.
  • Causes of pepper yellowing and spread pattern in the field.
  • Investigations on Post Harvest Pathology of black pepper: isolation and detecting contaminations to study control measures.
  • Studies on black berry disease of Piper nigrum L.: identification of the cause and control.
  • Studies in nutmeg leaf-fall disease.
  • Investigations on "Crown Gall Disease" in black pepper.
